September 2025 Favorites

September was one my favorite months of the year (always second to March). Went to so many concerts, visited to CASA BONITA, finished a book, listened to amazing new releases, and as usual had a beautiful time with my friends. September I am looking on you fondly and giving you a hug.

What are you reading?

I read Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. Pretty good pretty good. Lots to talk about, but don’t want to spoil it.

I’ve started The Lover by Marguerite Duras. It’s heavy, but really well written and vivid.

I’ve also been reading different publications, which has been so fun. Seriously read those blogs!

My recs:

Getting my haircut by my beautiful cousin Madison. She is so talented!!!

What are you listening to?

Holy shit. September had such amazing releases I had to break up the shows I saw and what I’ve been listening to.

I’m going to start with Wednesday’s new album, Bleeds. They’ve just been insane. This album is really going to make them hugeeee. I listened to it for the first time with Gracie on a kayak, which honestly is the best way to have listened to this.

Bleeds is Wednesday at their best. Karly Hartzman’s (lead singer) lyrics are perfectly strung together in every track. What I love about Hartzman and Wednesday’s music is that it always evokes a memory. This album feels like waking up with a headache to go talk to your roommates about what you said last night with the smoke of the bonfire still in your hair and dirt under your fingernails. It’s grimy, gritty, and just simply beautiful.

“The Way Love Goes” is haunting and heartbreaking. Please go look at those lyrics. It hits me right in the high school heart when I too went “Knocking on that screen door/Even though I can see right through.” Bleeds is a love letter to all those memories that feel fuzzy now, bringing them right to the forefront to laugh and cry about all over again.

Nourished by Time. I’ve been obsessed with them since Thomas showed me “Hell of a Ride” in the car. His new album The Passionate Ones is so so good and one of my favorites of the year. It did come out in August, sorry not sorry. Marcus Elliot Brown has a hypnotizing voice with beats that make you shimmy wherever you are and I adore that.

I got to see him at Lincoln Hall and it was a beautiful show. People were dancing!!!! “BABY BABY” is my favorite off this record. I think Nourished by Time scratches that Frank Ocean itch in a more mature way. I’ve been telling everyone, but I think he’s really going to blow up so you should hop on right now.

Everyone’s talking about Geese! Me too. They released a heavy hitter of an album at the end of the month with Getting Killed. I was ringing people up at work asking if they’ve listened to it. So that’s where I’m at.

But seriously, this album is great and deserves the hype it’s getting. It’s also so cool to see a young band kill it with a unique sound that’s not shoegaze. These three albums are the ones this year that on the first listen I sat back and was like “yeah this is the shit.”

“Au Pays du Cocaine” is incredibly beautiful. The lyrics are just wow. “Like a sailor in a big green coat/You can be free/You can be free and still come home.” You can be free and still come home. I needed to hear that about six years ago, but I’m glad I’m hearing it now.

And a little list of songs I’ve been loving:

  • “Drunk II” by Mannequin Pussy

  • “Halo” by Alice Phoebe Lou

  • “Rings” by Pinegrove

  • “Love Is Overtaking Me” by Arthur Russell

  • “Starburster” by Fontaines D.C.

  • “Los Angeles” by Big Thief

  • “As Long As You’re Mine” by Wicked’s OG cast (no I’m not kidding)

What are you watching?

The Summer I Turned Pretty is over :(. We had a finale watch party and it was gorgeous. Ordered pizza, had some wine, there were tears shed too. My Wednesday nights are feeling empty without it.

Watched Coda with Gracie and it was beautiful!!! Loveeee.

CASA BONITA CASA BONITA CASA BONITA the most epic place in the world. Dreams come true here.

Where’d you get that?

This blue REI zip up I got Able Shoppe in West Town. I’m obsessed with it. Also you have to go check out this shop they have the coolest stuff, nicest staff, and so well curated. #gorp

My mom’s shirts…Han Solo tee paired with a Laila textiles tank (she’s amazing) and this reworked vintage tee that I loveeee. Side note that Han Solo outfit is one of my favs, but no one ever comments on the Han Solo of it all. Disappointing.

Hannie’s hat, need to get a tattoo of the skull.

Our boots at Outlaw Fest. So cutie and cool.

I have no outfit hacks for you this month unfortunately :( lame of me.

What Shows Have You Been To Lately?

SO MANY! September was shows galore. First up I want to mention Big Thief listening party. We colored little sheets of the album cover (modeled by Adrienne). That album is great too, it’s a grower.

Thomas and I went to Spacey Jane, an Australian indie band that reminds me a lot of The Wombats (throwback). But, I left that show so impressed. They were so much fun to watch, and honestly it reminded me how fun shows can be when people are not having a “I’m really cool watch me sway” off.

Went to Outlaw Fest in Wisconsin, which was so fun. Gracie, Zoe, Adrienne and I ate sandwhiches in the grass and got drinks that cost $27. But, I got to see….WAXAHATCHEE!!!! She was amazing I was on the railing like I was seeing One Direction. She’s just so good. Also caught Sheryl Crow, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson. I love you Willie.

I saw Turnstile and Mannequin Pussy at Northerly Island and what a show holy shittt. BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS. I had such a fun time at the show. The crowd was buzzing, people were moshing, and I didn’t get stepped on. It was a great night. There was also a grrrl on her dad’s shoulders with big headphones on and that always makes me tear up.

Last show I saw was Hinds at the Goose Island mini festival. They somehow always get the coolest people ever to come to this. This was my second time seeing Hinds and I fall for them harder each time. If you have the chance to see them next time they come to the states you need to make it a priority.

What are yall doing?

We did so much! Took a trip home to visit dad in Denver, which was much needed. We went hiking (and I actually had a fun time, shocker). Played cards and I refused to let him teach me the game because I promised I could just “figure it out” I did not…hence his annoyed face. Thomas came halfway through and I took him shopping and we got to go to CASA BONITA. Seriously, what a magical place. The margaritas were talking and screaming for the divers. We went to some great dinners, the Botanic Gardens, and had a night at the Denver bars.

Friends of Friends in West Town has been a new frequent place for us and it is just too cute.

Gracie made me a beautiful dinner in Wisco pictured below.

All in all, this month was a big reset and much needed. It was busy, but packed with so much fun. I hope you got to this point, but if not maybe picked up some new music.

XOXO loving life.

September I love you!
