August 2025 Favorites
That one Taylor Swift lyric…“August slipped away into a moment in time.” Feeling that very hard right now. So much so that it is about time for me to be writing September favorites and I’m writing August ones at my friends lake house in Wisconsin. They’re all taking a nap/grocery store running, so I’m capitalizing on my time.
What are you reading?
I finished up my classics phase with Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. This book is good and I get why it’s a classic, but it did make me feel like I was in high school again. I am very vulnerably going to admit that I had to watch a Sparknotes Youtube video to make sure I was comprehending everything, and you know what it helped a lot.
The coworker library is gorgeous and opened up to give me Slow Days, Fast Company: The World, The Flesh, and L.A. WOW. I am absolutley and utterly in love with this book. If you wish Joan Didion was a little grittier, Babitz is your grrrl. I read this book in two days.
Seriously I could go on and on and on about this book but the thing I loved most is how unapologetically raw it is. Babitz is messy and wild—each chapter feels like a morning tangled in the bed sheets with last nights makeup caking your face. It’s like cigarettes and spilled glasses of wine on your dress, thankful that you chose white instead of red. Hot, heavy, and beautifully written. I am in awe of Babitz and can’t wait to read more of her stuff.
Kisses for Daniela
What are you watching?
The Summer I Turned Pretty is still in full force. We started heading to Adrienne’s new place to watch it, and that’s been a highlight of my month. Wednesdays are always tv day.
Oh I also watched Hunting Wives. Love Brittany Snow and that show is absolutely bonkers.
I went and saw Weapons with the shop grrrls. I was terrified. Closed my eyes and ears, so I missed the whole “peeler” part (thank God).
Sici and I matching
Where’d you get that?
Got a new Jungmaven shirt, duh. White paseo quarter length. So so cute.
I tied my polka dot halter dress into a shirt. You can kind of see it in the picture, but I felt like a rare ladybug.
Forgot about this epic Levi’s dress I have. But, then I remembered and threw it on, and got many a compliment.
Sici and I of course came out of our rooms in the same outfit…white tank and jeans never hurt anyone.
What are you listening to?
Saint Etienne (in general). If you like Jordana/TV Girl’s album Summer’s Over, I think you’ll really like her too. They use that same sampling style with a sweet, airy, breathy voice that reminds me of those final days of summer.
“Superstar” by Hinds. Such a banger. This album has really really grown on me this year.
Geese/Cameron Winter has taken the music world by storm obviously and he’s caught me a little. “Taxes” by his band “Geese” is criminally good. The lyrics. “If you want me to pay my taxes/You better come over with a crucifix/You’re gonna have to nail me down.” CMONNNNNNNN. Insane. I know that this band rides on the jam band line, and I am not really a jam band grrrl (at all), but this one got me.
“BIRDS” by Turnstile. Turnstile in general has been keeping me company on my runs. It’s perfect for that. I’m so excited to see them in September.
I haven’t been whining a lot because I love my life. Whiny Grrrl is in vacay mode.
Look at these beautiful people on the Rainbo couch
What are yall doing?
This month started with Glitzy magazine release party. I had such a great time, and I adore the team behind this beautiful zine. I’m so proud of the work done!!! It was also so fun to give hugs to everyone and tell them how excited I was.
Daniela came to visit me at the end of the month, which was so needed. We had a beautiful weekend packed full of activities. Most importantly, we went two stepping, ate at Cellar Door Provisions, and caught some Logan Square Improv. Love her sm.
Went to a couple Cub’s games with the bf. <3
Clare came to visit too, I met up with them at Hi-Lo and they were playing Roblox on their phones. Screenagers.
Omg. I got into baking. HAHAHHAHA. It’s been really nice and calming for me actually. I’ve also been obsessed with making stewed apples and putting them in my yogurt. After some failed brownies and cookies, I’ve gotten really good at making apple loaf. Stay tuned for this journey.
This summer as always was really full of love and laughs and good music and reading. Chicago summer you are always the best time of the year.
August byeeeeee. You will be missed.
