Hiiii I’m back. Had to return to recap the last couple months.
Sorry I’ve been busy and pre occupied, but I am here, and wanting to write. Let’s get into what I’ve been up to.
What are you reading?
I finished Demon Copperhead at the start of the year. While it is an incredibly amazing beautiful book that I strongly recommend…it is HEAVY. You almost get swept away by the way it's written, but it has some lines in it that I had to walk around the metaphorical block in my mind for.
I keep thinking about this part where he’s trying to describe how living in rural America or Appalachia (in the book's case) is like being in the bathroom and hearing someone talk shit about you and not coming out till they leave. They think you don’t know what’s going on, but you’re hearing everything.
It really stuck with me.
Oh my god, then I read Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins of course. It took me right back to reading The Hunger Games on my Kindle Fire. I was eating this book up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Then I of course had to read Ballads of the Songbirds and Snakes. I liked Sunrise on the Reaping better, but I really really loved getting back into this series. I recommend it if you need a kick in the reading butt.
I also read Writers and Lovers by Lily King, and am currently reading The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. These are the kind of books where I find myself wanting to write again. That’s a good feeling.
pic from the fall
What are you watching?
I’m skipping what I’ve been watching because I’m just not inspired by any watches recently, and I’m still watching Survivor so nothing's really changed in that department.
I did finally get to watch Wicked For Good and yeah “As Long As Your Mine” still the best song (maybe second to “Dancing Through Life”).
Party Time
Where’d you get that?
Trousers af. And I got Danskos. My life changed. I do understand the elf comments, but they are honestly a very comfortable shoe.
Got this giant zebra stripe clip from London and I love it.
I’ve been really loving the side bang, clip it vibe I think it’s so cute. It really only works for me when my bangs are trimmed, but I keep going. Which can I just say I was screaming from the roof tops that this was going to be a thing and now it is.
I got Adidas classic sweatpants, and I’m obsessed with them. Also, my friend Vicky made me a whiny grrrl shirt and it was so so sweet and thoughtful.
Been thinking about trends, neons and jewel tones are coming in hot. Also 2000s “yoga mom” fashion, I’m into it.
Mint green having its moment again.
Capris are going to have a big moment this summer probably paired with a kitten heel.
Clare and Sici and Kayla upped my yoga game so now I have a new yoga mat and a sweat towel which is actually amazing, so the ladies with the mat topper know what they’re doing. (Shoutout Hannie).
Jeans tucked into boots, also something I’ve plotting on for a while and now it is catching on.
Kind of gassing myself up here, but yall gotta listen to me.
While I’m on the topic, my infinity scarves I get clowned for, but I promise they will return.
What are you listening to?
Acquainted with Night – Lael Neale
Well first of all she has the same middle name as me. Next, this album is soft soft beauty like little glimmers of sun coming through your window and the first day you’re able to put a blanket down in Wicker Park.
Cruel Joke – Ken Pomeroy
Epic, sad, country loving it. If you’re into that Kacey Musgraves, Maggie Rogers intersection this is a good one for you. Pomeroy is a great lyricist and this album just rolls off of you, and yet sticks to you, like a temporary tattoo you’re rubbing your skin raw trying to get off.
Bitches Bitches Bitches EP – Uni Foreman
Really really beautiful EP that I found randomly. It’s just good. Came out in 2010, and deserves all the praise that I’m giving it 16 years later.
Casadaga – Bright Eyes
Casadega is a town in Florida that my mom (and me) are obsessed with because it’s a witchy town. I have a shelf that my mom tells me was made by a witch from there in my room. Keeps me safe. Anyways, I listened to this album a while ago while cleaning from our stacks of CD’s. I hadn’t listened to it from start to end since I was a kid, and let me tell you it hits just as hard now as it did then. It’s an album that feels like opening a dusty book in your grandparents attic. Each song feels like its own story meticulously crafted together in the most perfect way.
Special shoutout to the new Monster Rally album Echoes of the Emerald Sands. Really a great springtime album, it has me shaking off the frost.
And now a list of songs I’ve been loving:
“Sick Ride” by Karen Dio
“Supermarket” by Wet Leg
“The Roving” by Bonny Light Horseman, Eric D. Johnson, Josh Kaufman, and Anais Mitchell
“Tonight the Heartache’s on Me” by The Chicks
“Geezer” by ERISTHEPLANET
“Dreaming” by Ashaye
“Living in the City is so Beautiful” by Allegra Krieger
Holy f this song is so good
“Call Me Home” by SASAMI
